Industry Content Filtering Terms
Content Adaptation – A component of Web Content Filtering that changes the behavior, look, and feel of a website. It can be used to block or replace words, advertisements, or hide content on a web page.
HTTPs Inspection – Web content filtering that inspects HTTPs traffic. Typically deployed in two flavors: 1) Full which decrypts the session completely and inspects the actual content, or 2) Partial which only looks at the domain name of the website. Full decryption requires installation of a custom CA certificate on all endpoint devices, whereas partial relies on inspecting the SNI string which is part of the HTTPs handshake.
Web Content Filtering– Provides inspection and access controls to websites based on category or content within the website. Will be configurable to apply custom filtering polices on a per group or per user basis, time of day, or if on/off campus.
